I’m back and dusting off the rust off this old space bucket! There is significant developments on the LU front, plus Lego gaming in general. Dimensions, Worlds, all the TT games.
Today is a significant day and why I chose to wait to begin again. This was the closing announcement date of LU back in 2011. We are also hot on the heels of the official closing of Dimensions. It’s a good time for new beginnings.
I’m beavering away in my house, rebuilding my Lego cave. I work at a pretty great vintage toy store where Lego helps keeps the lights on. The store and my local club are going to be heavily involved in a convention, plus all our regular events. It’s a pretty bricky time.
I’ll be posting about all that fun stuff but will keep the emphasis on Lego gaming. I’m interested if anyone wants to be a contributor and thanks Aronwk for keeping the lights on 🙂 and yes…. I’ll be tying up the contest! My life got turned upside down and inside out, so everything got put on pause but it’s time to build!
Aronwk here with some very exciting news! I’m sure alot of you know of the numerous projects that were made in order revive LEGO Universe.
Well the wait is no more! Darkflame Universe is here!
Darkflame Universe is an emulator for the popular LEGO MMOG, LEGO Universe, that closed in 2012. We strive to make this emulator as accurate as possible to how the game was during live, meaning we want all the features that the game had then to be working in this.
Because of that scope, we don’t have everything working just yet. You can currently play on the Venture Explorer and Avant Gardens, but no other worlds are available just yet. This means you can still smash Stromlings and other Maelstrom enemies, build quickbuilds, earn loot, complete achievements, socialize or just hang out like when the game was Live!
Alpha will start January 31st,2017. It will be a closed alpha with keys given away on Darkflame Universe’s twitter @darkflameuniv. There is no NDA for this, meaning that players/testers can stream and post as much gameplay as they wish!
During the Alpha phase, only the Venture Explorer and Avant Gardens will be open for testing. This will not include the Spider Queen, Nimbus Station, or properties.
For more information:
check out their website darkflameuniverse.org and their Twitter @darkflameuniv
Join the fight to take back imagination this January on Darkflame Universe!
I’d like readers to know that I’m adhering to the updated policy that the company has released. What is still permissible is discussion of set names, numbers and other rumours. Obvious leaked photos I’m going to be mindful of not spreading.

Hey gang! Starting the year off with some Lego gaming at a First Lego League scrimmage. Happy Pappy and me did referee duty for this initial round. There was a great turn out and everyone involved shook the rust off as most of us had taken at least a year off and this was most of the kids’ first attempt. This year’s challenge is “Trash Trek” with a bit of a rules and board revamp. The scoring is refined, the models are intriguing and it’s more streamlined for the refs to score a board. I was particularly impressed with the composter!
We had over a dozen teams show up with all manners of robots. The local tournament is next month and the provincials will follow after that.
Setup with the teams milling about
A couple of teams squaring off under HP’s watchful eye!
One of the many fabulous robots in the now circular home base as opposed to the previously square one.
I’m going to assume that these photos are fine to post as everyone involved signed waivers for them to be posted by FLL. I’m involved in a peripheral role and if anyone wants an image with themselves removed they are welcome to contact me at email@example.com
So let’s fire up this gaming engine. There’s lots to go over this year. I’m composing a Lego Dimensions post, our club is rebooting VicWars for a new gaming convention and loose ends are getting tied up around this place.
“An advert for an unannounced video game, Worlds, has been spotted on the back of the instructions of 60097 by Eurobricks member mikaelsol.”
ty jamester for keeping an eye on this too, this could be the droids we’re looking for.
Big news of the day is the Lego Dimensions game. This is going to be similar to Skylanders and Disney Infinity games where you purchase a kit and the figs ‘come to life’ in the game. It’s a pretty savy marketing gimmick and this one is backed by several franchises under the ABS umbrella including: LOTR, Wizard of Oz, BTTF, DC Comics and possibly Ghostbusters & Simpsons as well, with the inevitable assumption there will be many more characters included. The game will be put out by Traveller’s Tales and on many platforms but not PC by the looks of it so far.
A couple of observations: animation style of this video is the more familiar flexible bodies as opposed to the Lego Movie’s stop animation. They are using the same voices for Wild Style ( Elizabeth Banks ) and Gandalf but I don’t think this is the TLM Batman, it seems more like the video game version. You can see the Ghostbuster’s PKE meter in Joel McHale’s hand which makes you wonder if there will be more one off sets in that line as well.
Wizard of Oz!
There’s a nice article over on polygon discussing the whole market of these types of games:
Lego did something interesting and released the first episode of their Elves cartoon on youtube.
It’s not… unbearable. The drawings are pretty good, the animation is quite halted and the story is somewhat formulaic but easy enough to follow. It’s sort of a cross between Mia and Me and The Last Airbender, which isn’t a bad thing.
Looking at the sets it was pretty apparent there was going to be some sort of story with the collectible keys, but it has a nice layer of depth with the elements. I’ve picked up a couple of the sets just for the parts, the show is not going to rope me in any further but I have a hunch my 4 yr old daughter is going to flip when I show this to her tonight.
I’ve been playing the Lego Minifigures game a bit and will do a more in depth review soon but it’s not horrible either. The social landing zone has a real Nimbus Plaza vibe and the game play is pretty satisfying. I found that the classes so far are kind of broken, I have no idea why you would want a primarily Defensive character or a Builder. I’m focusing on Strikers or Builders who have amazing attacks like Unicorn Girl. The cool down between special attacks, or the attack itself is a deciding factor in which character I’m running with as well.
Spooky Girl ftw.
