I really like this game and want to make my spaceship out of Lego. Since I can’t post pictures on their forum I’ll make the post here and happily promote this amazing game. It was a kickstarter and is still in development, but fully playable on Android and iOS, with a PC version coming out soon. It’s a pixel aesthetic, ship sim, with rts ship battles that seamlessly tie into on ship problems as well.
There are spoilers to a degree in this post, I didn’t give anything away really but it is a fully loaded ship with full crew composition.
The Roterbuck is a medium Hawking Class Star Command Cruiser that has been on numerous missions so far, depending on your interpretation of time travel. Roterbuck M3 is nearing the end of it’s mission with most of it’s original crew amazingly still intact. This has created for a tight knit bunch, nay, family that has survived and overcome some dire trials.
The Roterbuck M3
Overview of the floorplan
Let’s visit the Bridge first. Commander Chlorina is at the helm and has made the hard decisions only a captain knows. The crew has the utmost respect for her and know better than to underestimate her resolve. Let’s meet the Bridge crew.
Although Chlorina is not as high ranking as some of the other crew members, they all loyally follow her lead as she was responsible for all of the crew making it this far. When necessary she lends a hand in Medical and Engineering, and has done numerous repairs on the ship. Her priority has always been to protect the Medical Bay though and any injured crew members. There have been rumours that she just does that in case she gets hit there is a nurse close by but no one would dare say that to her face….
Ari served at least half of the mission on the Plasma Torpedo, learning it’s eccentricities and making sure that new crew are made aware of it’s appetites. He doesn’t treat the cushy Bridge gig as a lay away mission though, he is on the front lines whenever there is an intruder, and there are often intruders.
Christa learned her chops on the other side of the ship in the Machine Gun room. She is relieved to be finally out of that button factory and holds no grudges that it’s far more efficient now that someone else is pulling the levers. She prefers hunting bugs and is usually the first to require medical attention in a scrap.
Kolnil is one of the ‘new hires’ from the Midorians. Though there are quite a few on the ship, these 3 are a class all on their own and know it. Kolnil is easily the scariest of the bunch, she comes across like a lilypad but there is no one more fierce in a firefight.
The trusty Plasma Torpedo. This is the machine that is kept going at all costs, only second to the Medical Room whose proximity it benefits from.
Raegan has been on board for some time and was an early Bridge recruit. She spent most of her time there until the big Tactical crew shuffle and the Captain got an elite Bridge crew. Raegan took it as a demotion being sent to work on the Plasma Torpedo but most of the crew knew that it was probably the safest and enviable spot on the ship.
As soon as Ari needed an assistant on the Plasma Canon, Hil’Ompus was there to step up to the challenge. A Midorian with no training in the field, he has remained at his post and now passes his tutelage on to Raegan. When there is need for an extra Tactical crew in the ship halls he is quick to respond though.
The Medical Room was a decisive move for the Roterbuck but Chlorina decided that she wanted to invest in the crew at all costs. The insurance of being able to revive the crew has come into play numerous times but more often than that it has been a refuge for many if not all the crew during invasions. The Princess has overseen the development of this end of the ship with her gentle hand and has saved countless crew as they would unwaveringly protect her at any cost.
The Princess has always been the lead Medic on board the Roterbuck, taking the inexperienced nurse Sydnee under her wing and teaching her everything she could. The Princess started in the Shield Booster but as soon as this department opened she found herself here and hasn’t left. Like really, I don’t think she’s left.
As demands on the ship increased the Princess requested a new nurse to train. When the Roterbuck finally returned to Earth, Kaylee was hired fresh out of the academy. It’s rumoured that in a parallel timeline she was absorbed by another life form… only the Captain knows for certain. Kaylee often will attend to the wounded during the middle of a battle, setting up a triage and flanked on all sides.
Main Engineering has been a neglected department and only recently got the renovations it so deserved. Frequent staff rotations and hull breach quantum timelines have made for some less than favourable working conditions. Around the same time that Tactical had it’s crew shifted around, so did Engineering though it was far more controversial. At first there was mutterings that it was racially motivated, to keep all the ‘aliens’ in one spot. That sparked into outrage when Chorina confirmed that it was in fact just that, in the midst of battle she couldn’t tell everyone from one another and wanted to keep the species *and* genders apart. This was appeased with a healthy compensation package that including extra security for all Engineers and a unionized promotion. Most of the Engineers now in fact out rank Chlorina though they would never dream of giving her an order. Maybe a considered suggestion though.
Uuupul was in the first wave of extraterrestrial hires and has been in Engineering the whole time. He knows this ship better than anyone, but no one knows him better than Harvey, his human friend that was transferred out of his department. It was just the two of them running the whole engine for the longest time. There were no fancy machinations and certainly nothing to defend them except their own wits. He does enjoy his seniority over the rest of his crew though.
Bempoo has been on the ship just as long but was working in Dodge before. Everyone on board knows to ask Bempoo about any problem they might be having whether it’s a loose screw or the monitor won’t load, she’ll give it a kick in the reboot.
One of the benefits of the controversial staff shuffling in Engineering was the satisfactory reuniting of Bempoo with her sister Jajoo, who is a few florngs younger. She has paid close attention to her sister’s habits and you almost can’t tell one from the other in their skilled efficiency.
Suuunutu is a bit of a mysterious Trilaxian. He never speaks much and has been accused more than once of having ties to smugglers. The Captain pays little heed to these tales as he proved himself so efficient in the Sentry room and now equally so in Main Engineering. Curiously, Chlorina never leaves him alone on the Bridge unattended….
The Sentry room has been the Captain’s favourite child since she had it installed, getting every upgrade as soon as possible. It has known numerous, yet always fully staffed, crewmembers.
Anastasia has worked almost entirely her whole career in the Sentry room. She is adept and confident, though the Captain will sometimes look at her with a far away stare. A crew member once asked and she spoke foggily about an alternate timeline with multiple hull breaches, and that Anastasia was the first to go…. though the Captain was still not sure whether to turn back the clock-o-meter just then… There has been a bitter politeness between the two ever since.
Filnit is another of the ‘new hires’ who was the obvious choice of the Sentry room. His abundant skills in Engineering with a penchant for Tactical made for an easy transition to this department. Despite his extensive experience he defers to Anastasia on everything. She is oblivious to affections.
The Dodge Generator has been in place since before the Roterbuck left the system but it has been a backwaters for development, much like shielding. Despite that Hamza has reliably operated this cantankerous steam engine with aplomb. In fact, he’s quite unhappy with all the new systems upgrades as he has less room for activities.
Hamza was the first Engineer on board the ship and he’s also the first to let everyone know that.
Harvey spent most of his time on the ship with Uuupul and sorely misses him. Any chance he gets he will go and find him and for that reason when the red lights flash his heart soars because he might see his best friend in the halls again. There was a terrible confrontation when Suuunutu and him were switching rooms, they faced each other in the hallway and neither would give the other leave to pass. Security was about to be called when somehow it was resolved, but they haven’t forgot.
The Healing room is almost an afterthought and was in fact the last addition to the Roterbuck. It was originally staffed by Scientist Horus but he found Dion’s bedside manner to be offputting. Occasionally invaders find their way into this room but are often confused by all the corners and flashing lights.
Dion never wanted to serve on a spaceship let alone in a sick bay. He wanted to work in city council and make a difference. His resentment ripples through in his work habits and many are not comfortable working with him.
Janaar is the last of the ‘new hires’ and is above Dion’s petty dilemmas. He is a consummate professional and will briskly attend to the many inevitably injured who end up outside his doorway.
The Shield Booster was the first division of the Medical Scientific team, headed by the Princess and at the time her nurse Sydnee. The Princess has since moved on to the Medical Room leaving the Shield Booster in the trusted hands of a now skilled practitioner. It’s central location has been the refuge for countless crew in the thick of battle and frequented/repaired by many Engineers, so much that they consider it to be their second office.
Sydnee was the Princess’ first nurse and now is as accomplished as her majesty. She has always been unwaveringly brave and will rush to any fallen comrade in the midst of an attack. She sees a lot of her own spunk in young Kaylee.
When Scientist Horus found refuge on the Roterbuck it was more than just physical wounds that needed healing. Chlorina made a sage choice in partnering him with Sydnee, where they see each other as equals and Sydnee was able to tend to the deeper injuries that troubled Horus to this day.
This brings us to our Machine Gun room, which must have been built by Vogons it was so finicky to control. For the longest time if it even worked without backfiring that was considered a success, but now that the gunners know the beast it can deliver a steady and reliable output. Invaders rarely find their way down to this horrid box, but if they do then Sydnee will be up there in a pinch to provide necessary care in the chaos until backup arrives.
Yu’mnup has been serving on the Roterbuck for some time and is quite happy to still be alive despite all the horrors. It is his quick Midorian wit that aided in figuring out the intricate timing on the gunning mechanisms, though he is quick to leave his post during a battle, and if he can, catchup with Hil’Ompus and make light fun of the apes.
It is no secret that the Captain hired Emilie because of a certain other pink haired lass who was lost outside of a hull breach down by the Sentry Room. Sentiment not withstanding she has proven herself to be a quick study and reliably keeps her station and often will make the critical strike that wins the battle. This in turn makes other suspect the captain plays favourites whenever layover opportunities come up as Emilie has had more than her fair share of away time.
We should take this time to mention some new recruits who at this point hold no position on the ship.
Graham is rumoured to have come from an alternate timeline where he was a head nurse in the Medical Room instead of Kaylee. Here, he just gets coffee though.
Keely is an Admiral’s niece who is on board for an internship. Everyone is super nice to her though she doesn’t know if that’s because they just want a good word to her uncle.
Clifton is a programming whiz and hopes to crack into the Engineering department, though since it got unionized he realizes that he won’t get there through the Bridge. Someone might have to go first.
If you like this sort of game then I highly recommend. Looking forward to further updates from it!
