I had some mosaic ideas that I wanted to do, so good to see this technique done so successfully! Any other mosaics you guys know about?
This was for an internal LUP contest to celebrate LU’s first birthday and I took it upon myself to make a massive triple layer cake. PrimeFigulus asked us to document our building methods for future articles and I was doing pretty good at recording stuff until the end of layer one. Then I just got so into the process that was all I was focusing on. Plus by layer three it was so resource intensive I couldn’t run a video of cloning sections as I was frequently losing both the model I was cloning and the clone as well.
You were limited to a certain amount of brick in a model, I think it was 250 bricks, so to make larger scale creations you had to split it into several models. This also took advantage of the camera and transparency so the entire structure doesn’t go see through at the same time.
On the ground you can see a bunch of flat texture squares. I used those to create the icing by rotating them in 4 different directions and placing them on top of the floor sections. I used this same method to paint the icing on the outside of the cake as well. I’ll post videos of the finished cake later, this one shows the bottom section almost finished.
Also this was not in game music, I would always have the tunes cranked while building. So easy to get lost and in the zone.

Flam recently put together a mocpages that showcases his properties and models made inside LU. If you aren’t familiar with this luminary LU builder then here’s a great opportunity to see what was possible with the build tools and a lot of imagination and skill.
White here, so i’ve been looking back at some of the great properties that have came about. I found a interesting video montage a while back showcasing some of the best properties in the game. A montage is a series of films condensed into small segments to save time. So if you don’t have time to watch a 10 minute video, this is a perfect video that gives a glimpse of each property. It is important that we do not forget what we created in LEGO Universe. Gorfunblot’s whole channel is dedicated to properties so I highly suggest to take a look at it. You can find his channel here. Thanks to all the great builders who made the game -that- much more exciting. Your creations will never be forgotten.
Flambridge made a spooky house on Storm, of course I didn’t see it because I only played on Overbuild. Thankfully, Storm’s finest import, Nerfertiti made a great video for us to see this award winning prop. Thanks Nerf!!
