Today is October 26, 2012. While the severs first opened to founders on October 8, 2010, it was exactly two years ago today that LEGO Universe opened to rest of the community. In memory, I made a little video tribute, using footage I recorded during last three months of the game. Enjoy. 🙂
This is something that I was putting together in the last couple of weeks, when all that crazy was coming through the mail and we all put some sort of weight on our keyboard to keep logged in ( I used a gyroscope on my down key and ran into the corner of my Nimbus Rock )
This isn’t exact, and there would be some iterations in between, such as when you have all level 1 gear except for the level 2 hat. I submit to you though, Lego Universe Inventor class levels 1-10:
There is arguably more levels with Dr. Overbuild’s hat on, using the vailant etc, and pretty sure I took a picture of that or had one taken in ‘max’ gear.
Hey everyone! MaverickDengo here.
I’ve been meaning to do a post, but I never got around to it. So I’m going to start by sharing this picture with you. I took it a couple of days before the game closed.
Long live the Nexus Force!
I was just sitting here minding my own business when it hit me very suddenly.
I really miss LEGO Universe.
Today especially for no apparent reason. Just, Boom! Really missing it.
Bad enough to want to say so to people I know will understand.
I was getting some animals out for our Gottacon board, pulled this out and just laffed. I showed Steve, what a grin that got.
We tried explaining how the horse part was broken for us now, and it was borderline futile. There were even some guys who had played LU but not in the last couple of months so had missed all the crazy spawns and loot giveaways, so we had a better time of explaining what the horse could do but I guess it was one of those you had to be there things.
So what could a horse do?
If you equipped a heart boost hat ( chef, blue turban or red hood, probably more ), backed the horse’s rear into a barrier, do the heart boost and jump off the horse, then there was a good chance you’d be on the other side of the barrier. The classic example is the Moonbase bubble, but there was a few others like in Crux and the Monastery. Even after the jetpacks were released, you still needed the horse to go oob on Moonbase.
A horse broke public chat, you couldn’t see it but you could still get team and private messages.
Wherever you equipped the horse was where your summons or projectiles would spawn if you moved away. This was an odd bug that allowed remote summoning or firecrackers.
There were 2 types of horses, the normal one that was in your model bag and the glitch horse that was in your gear. You could equip both horses at once for a horrid Sleipnir creature, which looked just nuts if you reared it up. The glitch horse could also be equipped with the jetpack for ludicrous flying action.
What other horsey fun did you have?
This was odd and not really sure how I did it. It was something like logging out at the rocket launcher just as I pressed Shift to launch, then I came back and could wander around Nexus with my rocket. Some people saw it and others just saw me in the rocket holding position. The hud also broke and I was stuck in this letterbox mode until I logged out eventually.
I took this video in early December and this was the only time I had run across these spawned in the game, though I did hear word of them being in AG as well.
This short video sums up much of the absurdity of the final days. All of these players have put weights on their directional keys to keep rotating in place while they were away from their computers. I’m not judging, did the same thing, but I was on my property. To see these figs in the craziest gear ever just rotating in spot cracked me up.
I had a checklist of stuff I wanted to do with the jetpack and got most of it done actually, if you don’t count going on *every single property* in the game. One stunt I wanted to try, and sure I wasn’t alone, was explore the exterior on Nexus Tower. At the base of the central rocket launch I started to go up and up and eventually the camera unhinged from my fig but I kept flying up until I was a mere speck of a pixel. Then I pressed record and turned off the jetpack 🙂
I took this video a few days after the flood of jetpacks but a few days before the game ended. This was late’ish at night and I was perched on a building ready to log out for the night. It occured to me that it was a pretty interesting scene, something that would be unimaginable just a week earlier and now it was pretty casual to flit around on your jetpack.
I know that I just said I wouldn’t be posting much but this video just finished uploading. This is the video from that screenshot yesterday of flying back towards Venture. It was so striking when I flew out that I had to record it on the way back.
